0-4-0 Mississippi at the 1934 Century of Progess Worlds Fair - original
Title:  0-4-0 Mississippi at the 1934 Century of Progess Worlds Fair - original
Description:  Here is one of the displays in the transportation area of the 1934 World's Fair of the Natchez & Hamburg RR 0-4-0 "Mississippi". The loco, originally built by H.R. Dunham & Co in 1836, was refurbished for the World Fair display. The orginal had 43" drivers and developed a respectable 150 psi boiler pressure. Its cylinders were 9.5"x16", a far cry from locomtives that would follow. The loco is now a permanent display at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Date is approximate.

0-4-0 Mississippi at the 1934 Century of Progess Worlds Fair
Title:  0-4-0 Mississippi at the 1934 Century of Progess Worlds Fair
Description:  Here is a cleaned up verson although it doesn't add much more detail than the original sepia colored photo. The cab cover was added for this 1934 display. It is the only surviving locomotive from the Natchez & Hamburg RR in Mississippi. According to the Museum website, this loco was originally salvaged by James Hoskins of Brookhaven, MS, and donated to the Illinois Central for the Chicago Columbian Exposition in 1893 and ran under its own power to reach Chicago. It was then donated to the Museum in 1938 after its appearance in the 1934 Worldl's Fair. Quite a unique piece of railroading history.
