Title:  NYC 2-8-2 #2225 - New York Central
Description:  Working the freight yard on this day in 1936, this 2-8-2 Mikado was built in February of 1923 as Michigan Central #125 (serial #6389, class H-7a). It had a booster added in 1936 as well as being renumbered NYC 2225. The loco was retired in June of 1953 and sold for scrap in August of the same year. Original specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders engine weight of 335,000 lb, tractive efffort of 63,470 lb. Unknown photographer

NYC 2-8-2 #2222 - New York Central
Title:  NYC 2-8-2 #2222 - New York Central
Description:  Originally built as NYC #122 (serial #64024, class H-10a), this ALCo-Schenectady 2-8-2 Mikado buiilt in March of 1923 was later renumbered in 1936 to NYC 2222. A booster was added at the time as well increasing the T.E by 11,000 lb. Retirement came in June of 1953 and later it was sold for scrap in 1954. Original specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 342,500 lb, tractive effort of 63,470 lb. Unknown photographer

Title:  NYC 2-8-2 #2318 - New York Central
Description:  Built by Lima Locomotive Works in July of 1924 as CCC & St L #218 (serial #6819, class H-10b), the loco was renumbered NYC 2318 in 1936 and again in August of 1948 as NYC #2076. It lasted on the roster unti retirment in February of 1952. In March of 1952, it was sold for scrap. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 337,000, tractive effort of 63,470 lb with a booster adding 11,000 lb more. Ralph H. Payne photo

Title:  NYC 2-8-2 #2252 - New York Central
Description:  ALCo-Schenctady built this 2-8-2 Mikado as CCC&StL #153 (serial #63655, class H-10a) in December of 1922. The loco was renumbered NYC #2253 in 1936. The loco continued in service revenue until being retired in November of 1951 and later sold for scrap in February of 1952. Specs - 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 342,500 lb, tractive effort of 63,470 lb. A booster was added in 1936 which increased the tractive effort by 11,000 lb. No exact day in 1940 was given. Unknown photographer

Title:  NYC 2-8-2 #9589 - New York Central
Description:  Built by ALCo-Brooks in October of 1918 as Pittsburgh, McKeesport & Youghiogheny 2-8-2 Mikado #9589 (serial #60354, class H-9a). The PMcK&Y loco was probably relabeled in 1936 to NYC 9589. Eventually it was retired and sold for scrap in 1951 The date on this photo is 10/6/1951 which means it probably is the last photo ever taken of the loco while it sat in the scrap line here. Specs - 57" drivers, 26.5" x 30" cylinders, a 190 psi boiler pressure,T.E. of 56,691 lb, E.Wt 320,500 . Harry A. Frye collection

Title:  NYC 2-8-2 #2059 - New York Central
Description:  Built by ALCo-Brooks in January of 1913 (NYC records say 9/1912) as Lake Shore & Michigan Southern #4019 (serial #52787, class H-7a) it was later transferred to the Michigan Central roster in May of 1917 as MC #7959. Later in August 1936 it was renumbered again to NYC #2059. The loco was retired in November of 1953 and sold for scrap in 1954. This photo was taken as it awaited the scrapper's torch in Sterling, IL, probably the last photo ever taken of it. Unknown photographer

Description:  Here sits another loco relegated to the scrap line at the Proviso yards in Proviso, IL. Built by Lima in October of 1916 as NYC #3949 (serial #5240, class H-5t), it was later reunmbered NYC 1449 in August of 1936. The loco was retired in August of 1949 and scrapped in October of 1949 at Ashtabula, OH. Not sure what it's doing in the Proviso yard at this late date though.Unknown photographer

Description:  Missing its bell, whistle and whitelined its number all tells the sad tale that it sits in a scrap line at the Proviso yard in Proviso, IL. Built by Lima in September of 1916 as NYC 3939, it was renumbered in August of 1936 to NYC #1439. The loco lasted until being retired in June of 1954 and sold for scrap in October of 1954. An unknown photographer took probably what is its last photo.

Description:  Built by ALCo-Schenectady in October of 1920 as CCC&StL #6188 (serial #62285, class H-7e), the loco was later renumbered to 1988 in August 1936. It lasted on the roster until retirement in August of 1954. This photograph dated 1/15/1955 shows that it was still sitting in the scrap line at the Proviso yard. Unknown photographer
