MNCW 293 |
Description: |
The only SPV-2000 unit to be preserved out of the thirty built by Budd for New York and Connecticut commuter operations. Built to run until the year 2000, this successor to the RDC never lived up to expectations as frequent mechanical problems would sideline these units early, many being rebuilt to non powered coaches. |

MNCW 293 |
Description: |
Probably the only one of its type preserved in a museum setting, former Metro North SPV-2000 293 rests near the back of the CERM's yard awaiting restoration. The Budd Company of Philadelphia constructed thirty of these self propelled cars with most of them sold to either Metro North or ConnDOT. Originally meant to be a successor to the RDC, these cars never lived up to expectations and suffered so much from frequent breakdowns that they were more often than not towed behind a locomotive. |
