This beefy looking 2-8-0 camelback was caught sitting with its steam up in the Phillipsburg, NJ yard. This 2-8-0 camelback was built by Alco-Brooks in March of 1906 as Central RR of New Jersey #681, part of the 675 class. In 1919 I was reclassified as I4 class. In August of1921 it was rebuilt to class I4s at Alco Schenectady Shops. It was again reclassified as class C39 in 1945. After nearly 46 years of dedicated service, the loco was sold for scrap in May of 1952. This is a Jacques M. Singer photo. |
