Personal PC. Here is a postal card entitled "The Iron Horse In Retirement." Postmarked: 1 August 1961. Sent to me by James W. Young, a chemist at the PRR's Altoona Test Plant. Caption On Reverse: "This is the last steam locomotive run on the Maine Central Railroad. Final trip was Portland to Bangor and return on June 13, 1954. No. 470 is a Big C Class Pacific type built by Alco in 1924. It had 30 years of service, being replaced by modern diesels." Photo by Luther S. Phillips. |
