Ex-Erie E8 831 leads 3 others west a few miles west of Marion,Oh. Moving at a fast clip - maybe not as fast as their passenger hauling days - but rolling quickly across the flatlands of this part of Ohio. The second unit that was smoking was 810 , one of the E8 demonstator units built in 1951 and purchased by the Lackawanna. Unfortunately this was the last EL train I ever saw or photographed. I had spent a couple of enjoyable days in Marion but had to get back to Texas. It was ironic and nice that the last train was all E units that I got to ride behind many times as a kid going to my grandparents. |
