ATSF 2-8-0 #809 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe         
Long before a D8-40CW unit wore the number "ATSF #809", this Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) built 2-8-0 did. A proud crew poses with their locomotive, engineer at his window and the fireman on the pilot in front. Built it January of 1902, it was one of hundreds of 2-8-0 Consolidations that were on the ATSF roster. Specs - serial #19952, class 789, 57" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 17x32" high pressure cylinders, 28x32" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 202,360 lb, tractive effort of 42,321 lb. The entire 789 class of Vauclain compound locomotives was simplified starting in 1907. Retirements started in late 1930's and continued for nearly 20 years.
