EM One General Wasn'r for removing Ice from Tunnels at all. it was to "gauge" tunnels for clearances of trains going through them, and things done to tunnel to make the clearance that the "bars" wouldn't touch the sides at any location in-said-tunnel being examined the old fashioned way!! 7/17/2018 2:36:44 AM

EM One General Tom, Yeah, see back in the days of the B&O from the railroad that had CE-15 was a time when the days of first building the railroad a lot of things were small then and as time progressed trains and their size got bigger, the equipment grew to the point that they had to see if the newer big equipment would pass through tunnels and bridges and s a "gauge" car needed made and as they used it at times the car itself would be used over and over in one tunnel for instance to make sure the trains would clear inside said tunnel. The B&O did have ice breaker cars that mere merely a hopper car that had 2 "scapers" to knock down ice and such and those scrapers were made to merely just knock down the ice nothing more, the CE-15 was different as those metal "fingers" would touch in close clearances only, and where they would "touch" inside the tunnel or under a bridge would justify modifications to "open" the clearances, in the way to detect where and for how long a distance...... 7/18/2018 10:25:22 PM
