SNCF TER (with a runaway story)  Contributor's Pick!
The X73500 is a single railcar type operated by the SNCF in France. They were built from 1999 to 2004. In October 2015 a X73500 hit a cow and its braking system broke. The runaway lastet over 19 km / 12 miles until on an uphill the driver could jump out and could put chocks underneath. Non of the 19 passengers was hurt (but maybe frightend to death). Since then the X73500 are no more allowed to operate as single car train. In January 2015 another incident happened with this class: It didn't activated the track circuits and therefore run over 11 km / 7 miles at 130 kph / 80 mph through several open street gates !
