Bryan Smith General Mr. Browning was one of many back then that had a lot to do with nurturing my love of the railroads. He always rode the cab and I spent many days in the cab with him peppering him with countless questions. When a new timetable came out he would always be sure to get me a copy and even got me a rule book. When I went to work for Southern in 1981 he was still working. At that time he was making the run to Columbus GA and back on the through freight that operated between Birmingham and Jacksonville. I saw him quite a bit and when working the call office functions at Albany I called him several times with on duty times. Unfortunately his health was not the best and he passed away just a few after he retired in the early 1980's. Every railfan has a Ray Browning....and here is mine. 7/25/2014 10:52:32 AM
