Grand Coulee Dam
Under construction, ca. 1936-40; located on a U.S. Government railroad extension from the NP at Coulee City; the NP wanted exclusive rights to the traffic a la the UP at the Boulder Dam, but the government balked and built its own line; the NP still handled thousands of cars of cement to the largest concrete structure in the world at the time (good business in the midst of the Great Depression!), some shots show NP box cars on top of the dam near the crane location shown in this image

John Burgersmith General I've not seen this view before. Nice! 3/13/2012 4:11:35 PM
JA Phillips I I I General I'm beginning to think Grand Coulee was the most photographed structure in Washington between 1936 and 1940! 3/13/2012 8:10:10 PM
Nolan Deardorf General The location of this photo is actually Grand Coulee. Coulee City is about a half hour west of this location. This is a great photo. It really shows how much the area has changed over the years. 11/19/2014 11:12:05 PM
