Built in 1949 by P-S in Lot #6792 to Plan #4134 as PRR Class POS211 2DR-1C-1DB sleeper-25 seat buffet lounge blunt end observation #8427 WILLIAM WALLACE ATTERBURY, 1 of 7 such cars (#8421-#8427) built in that Lot; these cars were ordered in January 1946 and delivered between March and April 1949. In 1957, 5 of these cars were renumbered to #7154-#7158 for parlor service, the WILLIAM WALLACE ATTERBURY as #7155; these 5 cars were returned to the original numbers in 1958. The WILLIAM WALLACE ATTERBURY was retired in 1967 and sold to James E. Strates Shows. The ATTERBURY is 1 of 4 extant cars from Class POS211. The other 3 are: #8422/#7158 GEORGE BROOKE ROBERTS, which is now privately owned as the #800027 JOHN T. BRIGHAM; the #8423/#7156 FRANK THOMSON, which is now the #800110 LOUIS SOCKALEXIS; and the #8426 SAMUEL REA, which was formerly owned by the Indiana Railway Museum in French Lick, and is now owned by the Great Lakes Central.
