Floyd Volz
Title:  Floyd Volz
Description:  Long-time New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal supervisor Floyd Volz was standing next to Amtrak dining car 8099 as it sat in the station on the PANAMA LIMITED. The car had been built by Pullman-Standard in December 1949 as Norfolk & Western 493 GENERAL WILLIAM MAHONE, but its name was removed in 1957. Mahone was a confederate military officer and a prominent figure in the early history of the N&W. The car was renumbered Amtrak 8099 in July 1972, retired in May 1977 and sold to the Lake Shore Chapter NRHS. It was subsequently purchased by the Norfolk Southern who numbered it 18 and restored its original name, and then renamed it NEW ORLEANS in 2015.
