ICG Shore Line Local |
Description: |
Former Gulf Mobile & Ohio GP35 639 was powering the Illinois Central Gulf's Shore Line Local through Mandeville, Louisiana; on its way from Covington to Bogalusa. The train had just crossed U.S. Highway 190 and was now turning east towards Slidell, where it would turn north again and head up the former GM&O main line to Bogalusa. The whistle post next to those red and black CZCX (Crown Zellerbach Corporation) pulpwood cars was for Carroll Street. After the branch was abandoned in 1991 most of the right of way became the Tammany Trace trail. (approximate date) |

GM&O No. 33 |
Description: |
GM&O train 33 crosses Bayou Pattasat on the main line of the Southern Railway, on its way to Canal Yard in New Orleans. Before 15 May 1970 GM&O GP30's could not lead on the Southern because they lacked the required Automatic Train Stop equipment, visible on the front axle of GP35 644. The date of this slide was after the ATS had been deactivated, but that date may be wrong. The other units are GP30 500 and GP35 637. (month OK, approximate day) |

Better than the ICG by a longshot |
Description: |
Eastbound FA-trucked 647 is in the hole to meet a trio of ICG "frogs". Once on the high iron 5.8 miles ahead at Genoa however, a large, heavy, rolling donation will be set out for the recently established Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society's museum housed in the restored former CMSTP&P depot. It will be the icing on the cake once there, but at least two years will pass for the short, costly jaunt up the street & around the corner |
