Big locomotives, short train |
Description: |
CSX 7899 and 7674 haul a train of four coil cars through Laurel Springs on January 7 following a light snow. They probably were going to pick up hoppers at Hammonton or propane tank cars at Beesley Point. The old station is a source of controversy. |

Underground Railroad Station |
Description: |
Another shot of the drill of the IP siding shows a strip mall in Lawnside, NJ in the background. Lawnside, the oldest independent black community, was an important stop in the Underground Railroad and contains the Underground Railroad Museum at the Peter Mott house. Escaping slaves could used trains in the South by crossdressing and having mulattoes pass for white. |

On January 26, I photographed NS 5219 and NS 5223 at the head of 8 box cars at the Somerdale Plaza near the intersection of East Atlantic Avenue and Warwick Road. The conductor brought packed lunches, while the engineer liked a pizza shop in the plaza. The engineer is shown returning from lunch. Multimodal shot at Barrington |
Description: |
I caught the train at Barrington again on January 27. I met a group of railfans again. Here is a multimodal shot. January 27, my birthday, was a gloomy day, apparently just like the one I was born in 67 years before. There had been a big blizzard the night before. But that did not stop trains, trucks or railfans. |

Disappointment |
Description: |
Like Audubon and Barrington, Magnolia was crawling with railfans. It was also crowded with snow removal personnel, who had been working since 10 in the evening the night before. As for CA51, I had hoped that the crew would stop the light engine for lunch, and I could catch the light engine then at Somerdale Plaza and then hopefully with a train further down. But after a brief stop, the light engine went on. Maybe the pizza shop was closed. |
