Description:  THISTLE UT Aug 22 1981 -- Rio Grande GP30 3013 charges west at Thistle. This location was destroyed when a huge slide began on April 14, 1983 (http://utahrails.net/drgw/thistle-vanished.php). Web site utahrails.net reports this locomotive was built in May 1962 and retired in December 1993. It was was sold to OmniTRAX in August 1995.

Title:  UTAH 402 Hiawatha UT
Description:  HIAWATHA UT Aug 22 1981 -- Utah Railway RSD15 402 and two sisters smoke it up as they begin to pull on a cut of cars at the Hiwatha loudout. Trailing unit 403 belches the most smoke and puts much of the area in shadow. The sound was incredible. According to utahrails.net alligator 402 was built for the Santa Fe in May 1960 as no. 9839. It made its way via Precision National in Illinois to the Utah Railway as no. 402 on Oct. 28, 1975. It was placed in service on Oct. 31, 1975. Its last day of service on the Utah was May 13, 1982. It was retired May 14, 1982 and sold for scrap in November 1983 to Industrial Salvage & Metals (Salt Lake City UT) where it was scrapped in early January 1984.

It was retired by Southern Pacific on Oct 3 1991, went to Omnitrax in 1995 and then to Camas Prairie in 1998 as CSP 143. It was retired in 2004, went to Illinois Railnet. Union Pacific retired it on July 14 1998 and it was never assigned a UP number. It was sold to Midwest Metallics McCook, IL in July 1998 but the sale was rescinded. It returned to UP at Omaha NB on June 19 1999, was sold to General Electric Technical Services and used at GEs contract (former C&NW) shop in Council Bluffs IA. It eventually went to Larrys Truck Electric Service as LTEX 1001.
